A Review by Windwalzer
Jopy - Third Generation Dirt Farmers | Zenapolae
Jopy with its second release Third Generation Dirt Farmers on Zenapolae, a netlabel from the US, unites sounds somewhere between ambient, post rock, drone and experimental. A very varied release with 10 titles layering acoustic sounds, loops and textures, thus generating completely different moods.
The locust laments begins with melancholic widths, in the background sounds of a strange orchestra which tunes the instruments in slow motion. Anime is introduced by a piano which reminds of Brian Eno, but soon soft to noisy elements are added. Between the rails is a quiet, but nevertheless bulky sound experiment.
Over a deep, bell-like sound Aurora borealis spreads its tone qualities. Rime frost shows remainders of a beat and moves on eccentrically. Abandoned bookseller consists of several parts, beginning with sounds a little as of the first days of electronic music back in the 50s (Stockhausen and friend), then calming down again as silent guitar sounds emerge. But these are dissolved soon again and it sounds, hiss and bubble, without ever gliding into the ennerving.
In that, in turn, Nauseated succeeds, a raw piece in preparation for the next dentist attendance. Human beings reminds a little of a SF Soundtrack from the 50s, however with a rather special swing.
Glass cages takes its time with drone-like sounds, and at last Last season's harvest offers a broad-scale finale with many quiet moments but also exciting sounds, to ensure that this release is not put away into the harmless Ambient corner by the inclined listener.
