Nurses With Knives is an experimental music project from Halifax, UK, founded by “Mono Eye” (real name withheld) in 2009. Initially starting as a secret side project to the subject’s previous excursions as a breakcore musician, the project would become the main output as the Myspace breakcore scene faded, allowing the project to explore sounds through the subject’s thought processes, including the blights of partial neurodiversity, the feelings bought on by the dark times of depression, and the ability to mutate musically when necessary. Every few years, the project would fold but then find a new home on a new web label, with a new sound. Spanning nearly 29 releases on a variety of labels worldwide, the project has also performed once as a (failed) collaborative live effort and then as an audiovisual experience during its final days of 2020. The project has often served as a secondary vehicle to the subject’s prolific work as a spoken word and writer since 2014.
In 2024, the project was indefinitely put on hiatus, due to a loss of the software, which finally stopped working. This release collects some of the best and varied sounds of the project between its most formative years as the project became a more productive and thoughtful attack on the senses. The present says the project is over, but there is always time for resurrection in the future…
