Essentially written as part of a musical series called Music For Electronic Minds, each track in this album attempted to carry along intently a specific mood. Water-based music, forest-based music, macro-life music, like Boards of Canada’s resonance – simple ideas that took all those far out, less inviting, explorations into far more personal and focused pieces. Although Unumpentium was meant for the New Age market, it ventures far outside the genre.
Drum machines, saxophones, electric pads, and all sorts of assorted mallet percussion find ways to make their presence felt in what really is supposed to be a set of percolating “floating” synthesizer music. Not entirely perfect – but what is? – it does have so much to offer as another important piece in this whole structure of electronic noise with ambient music we’re uncovering (with our Western ears) piecemeal.
Nik, aka 4T Thieves, from Finland, has crafted an awesome 4-deck live remix of 23 tracks taken from Zenapolæ's catalog, in roughly chronological order. This 40-minute continuous remix track beautifully reflects the label's development over time, at the same time creating its own, unique atmosphere. From our electronic beginnings, through the dark ambient phase, into its present, more experimental, orientation.
No Summer is an auditory journey through the infinite procession of the worldly seasons, and hopes invoke feelings of calm and acceptance of the changes that this unstoppable trek through space and time brings with it.
All music recorded live using a Eurorack format modular synthesizer, accompanied by an Arturia Microbrute and various FX pedals.
